It would not be an exaggeration for me to say that Animal Crossing New Horizons is keeping me sane. I have been in quarantine in my home since March 15th, 2020. As I am writing this, I am just completing Week 12 of isolation.
As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to destroy many lives, hopes and dreams for the future – this wholesome video game gives me a reason to be excited about waking up each morning.
For those who are unfamiliar with the series, Animal Crossing is a “social-simulation” game in which you play a human in a world occupied by anthropomorphic animals. In New Horizons, there are 397 different animal villagers that can move to your island and become your neighbor. There are 35 different animal species currently represented. The game moves in real time (as long as your Nintendo Switch console’s date/time settings are accurate). The seasons change according to your hemisphere and the weather and time changes too.
My favorite activities in this game include: fishing, gardening, interior design, trading, shopping, taking pictures and chatting with my villagers. It’s a slow-paced game which encourages you to smell the roses and relax. This game can be played completely offline and solo or you can open up your island gates and have other players fly in and play with you!
I have been inspired by the game to compose some looks inspired by the game. I hope you enjoy some of my in-game photos alongside my beads.
Who’s this? Why, it’s Martha of Marthnickbeads!
